I have been going to the Hunan for years, but tonight may have been my last visit. I ordered my usual dinner only to be surprised that the Egg Drop soup recipe had been changed. When I asked the waitress she told me that Kim had sold the Hunan and it was under a different owner that changed some of the recipes. I can't say the change is for the better. I'm so disappointed. The meal I had was nothing like I've been having for 20 years. It's not the same.

Amazing potstickers steamed then fried as they should be! Entrees selection is huge and what we got tasted great!!! Best Chinese I have had in a long long time.

Meh, nothing really special here. Hunan serves typical San Francisco-style American-Chinese cuisine: sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, red sauce, etc. Pretty much the same deep-fried fare that you can get at a million other "chinese" restaurants across the U.S. The prices for the takeout set dinner seem high, but the portions are correspondingly large. If you order the dinner for 2, beware that it will easily serve 3.

This is the place that I always go to eat whenever I visit home! It's always Dragon and Phoenix soup, Eggroll, and Salt and Pepper Shrimp. Everything else that I've had there has been good too, but that's what I dream about while I'm in Illinois. Also the owners are super nice. They used to recognize me for my order for pick-up, and whenever I eat there with my friend Jared and his family they always stop by to ask how we're doing.

food is horrible. none of the ingredients tasted fresh, and felt sick afterwards. the sauces were gross. Had leftovers and threw them out over worrisome quality. delivery driver looked and acted unprofessional. would never order again.

Should've been 'Heaven' Chinese Restaurant & Lounge... for real! You don't find 'em like this; perfected dishes, one after the other, each dish completely mastered & UN-FORGET-TABLE. 3 dining rooms, booths as well as tables suited for large parties. Sets the bar; dangerously addictive! Wow

Favorite Chinese Place Ever! Love the veg. dishes the last reviewer mentioned. When I used to eat meat I loved the Princess Chicken and Fragrant chicken. I agree with the weird chicken wings- leave them out and give soda refills!

I basically grew up here and the previous owner, Hai Ping, is like family to me. In response to the negative review left by Jason W. - he must be mistaken as Hunan's does not deliver their food. Wonton soup is by far the best I have ever had. Great crab rangoons and egg rolls! The paper chicken is amazing, you must try it as I have not seen it in many other places. I typically order off the menu - the pork egg foo young. Three large patties served in a delicious brown sauce and comes with endless amounts of rice. A few of my other favorites are moo shu pork, beef and broccoli, chicken fried rice, and the salt and pepper shrimp. Great food and quick service. Takeout is ready in 10-15 minutes.

Good drink, great crab rangoon. Horrible décor and lo mein. The lo mein was really terrible. They didn't even have proper noodles, they were linguini noodles. They would do better to have a really cool bar with great drinks and finger foods.

Another commenter, Jamie, said it right. I had never been to Hunan before a couple weeks ago, so I cannot say how good the food used to be. I can, however, say that the meal my girlfriend and I had was very poor quality. It was lower quality than most take out chinese, but with higher prices. We will not be eating here again. P.s. I had some saké that was absolutely terrible as well. Just please don't go...

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
